Email Templates

Design and customize email templates for your campaigns.

Email templates establish the visual foundation for your campaigns. A well-designed template ensures every email looks professional, renders correctly across devices, and maintains brand consistency without requiring design work for each send. Build your template once, then reuse it across campaigns by simply swapping in new content.

Working with Templates

Navigate to the Email module and click Create > Email Templates to browse available options. The template library includes pre-designed layouts for common email types — promotional announcements, newsletters, product showcases, and more.

When you find a template that fits your needs, click Preview to see how it looks with placeholder content. Consider how well it accommodates your typical content: Do you usually include multiple images? Feature a single product? Write long-form content? Choose a template structure that matches your content patterns.

To use a template for a campaign, click Use Template. This creates a copy you can customize without affecting the original. Modify colors, add your logo, adjust sections, and add your campaign content.

The Template Editor

The visual editor lets you build and modify templates by adding, arranging, and styling content blocks.

Content blocks are the building pieces of your email. Drag blocks from the panel into your template to add them.

The header block typically contains your logo and navigation links. This area establishes brand identity immediately when recipients open the email.

Text blocks hold your written content — paragraphs, headings, and lists. Style text with your brand fonts and colors for consistency.

Image blocks add visual interest and can illustrate your message or showcase products. Always include alt text for accessibility and for recipients whose email clients block images by default.

Button blocks create prominent calls-to-action. Buttons draw attention and make it obvious where to click. Use them for your primary action — shop now, read more, register today.

Divider blocks create visual separation between sections. Subtle dividers help organize content without disrupting flow.

Footer blocks contain required elements like your unsubscribe link and physical address, plus optional elements like social media links.

Styling Your Template

Beyond block content, style your template to match your brand identity.

Colors should reflect your brand palette. Choose a primary color for buttons and accents, and ensure sufficient contrast between text and backgrounds for readability. Dark text on light backgrounds is most readable for body content.

Fonts affect both personality and readability. Stick to web-safe fonts or use fonts that email clients commonly support. Unusual fonts may not render correctly for all recipients.

Spacing creates breathing room that makes content more readable. Use consistent padding and margins throughout your template. Cramped emails feel overwhelming; generous spacing feels professional.

Personalization

Dynamic content personalizes emails for each recipient using data from your subscriber list.

Insert merge tags like {{first_name}} to greet subscribers by name. "Hi Sarah" feels more personal than "Hi there" and can improve engagement.

Beyond names, personalize with any subscriber data you've collected. Reference their company, location, or preferences to make emails feel relevant to each individual.

Always consider the fallback when personalization data is missing. If a subscriber doesn't have a first name in your system, what appears in its place? Configure sensible defaults so missing data doesn't create awkward results.

Mobile Optimization

More than half of all email is now read on mobile devices. Templates must render well on small screens.

Use the preview feature to check mobile rendering specifically. What looks balanced on desktop may be cramped or awkward on a phone screen.

Single-column layouts work most reliably on mobile. Multi-column designs that look sophisticated on desktop often stack clumsily on mobile.

Make buttons large enough to tap easily. Small buttons are difficult to hit with a finger, frustrating mobile users and reducing clicks.

Keep subject lines and preview text short enough to display fully on mobile screens, where space is limited.

Template Best Practices

Keep templates simple and focused. The best emails have one clear message and one primary call-to-action. Templates cluttered with options dilute attention and reduce results.

Test templates in multiple email clients before using them in campaigns. What renders perfectly in Gmail might break in Outlook. Major email clients can interpret HTML differently, so verification across platforms prevents embarrassing surprises.

Create templates for each type of email you regularly send. A newsletter template, a promotional template, and an announcement template let you move quickly when building campaigns while maintaining design consistency.
